Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I am requesting that you pull item12 of the Regular Meeting on Tuesday, May 12 at 2:00 pm (Sutter’s Landing Park ADA River Access Trail Project Concept Plan Approval) from the consent calendar and request that you bring it up for discussion at a meeting where the public can voice our concerns.
The City has done a terrible job communicating with your constituents. There are many groups and individuals who have been attempting to explain our point of view to no avail. The staff has not been responsive and then just 2 weeks ago we found this item was going before the council and requested a 30 day extension. The item was pulled from the April 28th meeting (with no notice to us) but instead of 30 days it was moved out only 2 weeks and placed on a consent calendar so we can not share our concerns with the Council. Again, with no notice to those of us who expressed our concerns last month.
This is not a project that should be moving forward without thorough study by the whole Council. It is not a trivial matter. This boondoggle will create severe impacts on Sutter's Landing Park and the adjacent American River Parkway.
The existing plan is also a waste of money at a time the City can not afford to be wasting money. There doesn't seem to have been any serious research into the feasibility of a scaled down version of this plan such as eliminating alternative A and only building alternative B.
Sincerely,
Chris Smith
