Sacramento needs a vacant lot tax. Every year our city is deeper in deficit and we need additional methods for revenue generation. The staff report shows that residents support a vacant lot tax at 57%! That's a clear majority and the city needs to act. Fee exemptions can be made in special cases where property owners are completing clean up or environmental remediation. Vacancy fees are a clear way to incentivize in-fill development and the city should pursue additional fees.
