Good afternoon. I am happy to see the city finally addressing an issue that has plague our city for a long time and has gotten exceedingly worse due to misguided city planning policies over the recent years. Walkability in the city is poor at best, dangerous and potentially fatal at worse. I live downtown with my two small children and can attest that walking the downtown and midtown grid is difficult most streets. Crossing at city intersections are dangerous due to visibility issues. There is a chronic lack of space sidewalk to cross due to dirt, bark, bushes and small trees that dominate the city sidewalks. Why areas of dirt exists on city street corners in counterintuitive and planting bushes and even trees is reckless and dangerous as this creates visibility issues, sometimes zero visibility, for pedestrians, drivers, bikers, and people riding scooters. "Roundabouts" placed in the middle of midtown intersections have not slowed down drivers, but created dangerous conditions for pedestrians. At some roundabouts trees and tall bushes have been planted which has created a seriously dangerous condition for pedestrians and drivers. How this has been allowed boggles the mind. As a life long resident of Sacramento I plead the city to reverse past misguided policies, and remove all obstacles hindering pedestrian safety and walkability. I suggest to start with city intersections, crosswalks areas, and public transit areas. Bushes and small trees should be removed and areas of dirt should be paved over giving adequate space for pedestrians to cross city streets. All sidewalks in the central grid and business areas should be paved as much as possible wherever trees are not present, to make walking in Sacramento safe, comfortable, and inviting. Thank you for your time and consideration.
