6. [Pass for Publication] Ordinance Listing 2240 Northgate Boulevard (Orbit Station) as a Landmark on the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources
(M25-025) File ID: 2026-00512
Thank you Councilmembers for your ongoing focus of restoring and revitalizing areas such as Northgate. This is my neighborhood and I love and appreciate the cultural and historical value of everything my neighbors bring to the community. I hope you support the registry of Orbit Station as an historic and cultural resource for Sacramento. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Please support the listing of this unique and iconic building on Northgate Blvd. It's adds so much charm to the Boulevard and sets a positive tone to the area. I can visualize a coffee house, brewpub or art gallery in that location as a community gathering spot. Please vote yes.
Thank you for your continued leadership and for your attention to thoughtful redevelopment, preservation, and investment strategies that shape the future of Sacramento’s commercial corridors.
I have lived in the Northgate area for 19 years. I grew up along this corridor and have witnessed both its prolonged disinvestment and its recent signs of renewal. Northgate Boulevard is a critical gateway that connects our neighborhoods directly to Downtown. It carries daily economic activity, mobility, and community identity. It should reflect intention, stability, and long-term vision.
In recent years, we have begun to see meaningful momentum. Investments such as the grants supporting Taco Plaza demonstrate that this corridor is capable of attracting capital and activating underutilized properties. These efforts signal progress and affirm what is possible when reinvestment is intentional and community-centered.
As we continue advancing infill and corridor revitalization, we must also be deliberate about preserving the assets that provide identity and distinction. The former Orbit Station represents such an asset. Landmark designation is not a constraint on growth. It is a strategic tool that can anchor redevelopment, encourage adaptive reuse, and reinforce corridor branding along this important gateway.
This decision extends beyond a single property. It reflects how we approach revitalization in communities that have waited a long time for sustained and equitable attention. Northgate deserves continued investment guided by a cohesive strategy that balances economic growth with character and permanence.
I urge you to support listing 2240 Northgate Boulevard as a Landmark on the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources and to continue identifying additional opportunities to elevate Northgate through intentional infill, activation, and long-range planning.
Northgate is ready for disciplined, strategic, and forward-looking investment.
