Thank you staff for your dedication on this item! I am a dedicated protected-bike-lane commuter around town with our kid who rides on this section of 9th street almost everyday. However, we have a hard time accessing destinations south of 50 because of the unsafe connections under the freeway. I hope this project makes our travels safer.

I am concerned about the improvements between W and Broadway. While improved from the W/21st bike box design, the proposed bike box at W/9th has similar problems. Even with the rolled curb, it will remain very exposed. Around town, motorists often turn between the turn islands and the gutter (happens all the time at T/10th). In this location, with speeding traffic on W street, I would be concerned to be a sitting duck waiting to cross the street and have a driver turn left from W onto 9th taking the turn too tight and crashing into me. The turn movement will require cyclists to look far back behind them to ensure drivers from W yield for them to cross.

Additionally, the unprotected left turn and conflict point with drivers turning right on Broadway looks to be unnecessarily uncomfortable and dangerous. It relies on motorists turning right to yield and for cyclists to look way back over their shoulder to ensure compliance by motorists, which seems unlikely based on the existing design.

A think a superior design would be to carry the protected bike lane all the way to Broadway with a dedicated bike signal at Broadway. This will create a safer environment for cyclists turning left since they will not need to worry about motorists taking the turn too wide and merging into them. Additionally, cyclists turning right on Broadway could easily use the walk or green from this location to head west on Broadway.

For pedestrians, the effective turn radius for motorists at W & 9th is concerning. A small bulb out with bollards would be appropriate to reduce the radius and encourage motorists to slow down and yield to pedestrians.

Lastly, I would be curious to know the basis for continuing two vehicle lanes vs a single lane on between X and Broadway street since it ends at Broadway. Given the road diet on Broadway, I would assume most eastbound traffic is turning left on X. Additionally, for motorists heading south on Riverside, wouldn't a lane reduction encourage them to turn left on X and right on Riverside, which is a parallel route?

These are non-standard intersections and there is certainly a learning period to see how things are working with our new, similar protected bike lanes in this area. Thank you for taking the time to learn from those other projects and receive feedback from the community.
