15. Ordinance Listing the South Land Park Hills (Eichler) Historic District on the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources and adopting the Historic District Plan for the District (M19-002) (Noticed 05/10/2024) File ID: 2024-00897
SacMod.org supports the ordinance for the South Land Park Hills (Eichler) Historic District as well as the Historic District Plan.
We have worked on this long-term as a neighbor and organization. This project is the culmination of many volunteer hours and dedicated research efforts over many years. There is overwhelming support within our district.
Joseph Eichler was an outspoken advocate for fair housing at a time when others remained silent. Our neighborhood, or the “Eichlerhood” — as some of us locals call it — continues to reflect this diversity. South Land Park Hills was specifically identified in a now-20 year old book: “50 Fabulous Gay-Friendly Places to Live” — a credit to the couples who invested and pioneered the resurgence of interest in restoring these Eichler Homes.
We are so glad to see this historic district materialize as intended from the 2017 Mid-Century Modern Survey & Context Statement — a collaborative effort that was funded in part by our 2010, 2013, and 2016 neighborhood home tours. Thanks to all who were involved in this endeavor.
