I have lived at the apartment complex on the corner of 3rd and N Street for 10 years. I enjoy riding my bike around town, and even to work sometimes. I support the proposed bicycle facilities shown in the concept. However, I think more should be done on 3rd Street to prevent vehicles from parking in the proposed bike lane. That area is currently used as a pick-up area for employees from the adjacent office building. Please consider putting in flexible posts/bollards in the striped buffer area of the bike lane. This would prevent illegal parking in the bike lane. I would like to have the green dash striping through the intersections of 5th and 7th.
With this, can the City implement Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPI) for pedestrian signal phases at 3rd and 5th? This would improve pedestrian safety, especially since 5th Street will be converted to two-way. Lastly, since the streetcar proposes to remove several on-street parking spots for residents and businesses, can the City make both sides of 3rd, 4th, and P Street Residential Permit Area H? I park on N Street because speeding traffic on 3rd Street makes parking on-street risky.
