For the past week, the cold air has trapped smoke and pollutants in the city limits, creating hazardous conditions for the housed and unhoused.
It appears that for the winter, this year, every chilly night we are going to have hazardous AQI over 150 on the grid all the way to Folsom.

Because we live in a Valley, the best case response on an individual basis is to have fresh filters on air purifiers, however those, as well as indoor AQI monitors are very expensive.

I would like to invite the councilmembers to monitor purpleair.com for a day to day real time look at this situation, as it appears to be affecting the entire Pac NW. We need a healthy solution to this, either by madating spare the air days or encouraging use of heaters rather than wood stoves. I suggest making indoor air quality monitors available for low income households and creating a working group to make Sacramento NOT a top ten city in the United States for poor air quality, which it has been for several years running.

Even the wealthiest among us is breathing basically a pack of cigarettes every night if they are properly ventilating their space by cracking the windows. We are looking at serious long term health consequences for this: Even to nonsmokers.

A year ago the Mayor himself said that fires on sidewalks are not ok and should be enforced; https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/neighbors-say-emergency-crews-ignore-homeless-fires/#la150c851aq5nvdj5z2i

Today I was told by the non emergency fire department that the homeless gentleman with an open flame in the middle of the sidewalk was “okay and not wrong.” I am tired of paying a premium and feeling like I live in the ghetto. Fix this, it’s not acceptable.
