I'm a parent of young kids and person who likes to travel on foot and by bike and bus. I strongly approve of efforts to establish Safe Routes to School for all Sacramento students. Parents driving kids to school increases carbon emissions and steals hours from our mornings and afternoons.
I also support slower streets and closed streets.
I would also like to see more effort to slow down traffic on Stockton Blvd--the speed limit along the med center corridor is 35 but cars go way, way faster than that. A person on a bike was recently killed by a car just a couple blocks from where I live--that's devastating. The very real danger of Stockton Blvd keeps families, pedestrians, and cyclists away, which keeps Stockton ugly, loud, scary, and generally difficult for local businesses and residents. I shouldn't have to get in my car to visit a friend five blocks from me, yet that is what I do whenever I have to cross Stockton with my kids.
PS by "more effort to slow down traffic on Stockton Blvd" I don't mean increased policing; I mean evidence-based infrastructure investments that are proven to decrease vehicular speed and increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
