I am writing in disgust with the City's policies, that allowed for the taking the RV on Evergreen St that belongs to a family of 6 with 4 children (under the age of 10 years old) -- so that they now sleep in tents on the sidewalk, which they were told today were also not allowed and that their tents would soon be taken and destroyed too. Also today Sacramento Police threatened another woman on Evergreen who has 2 month old twins that they would take her RV today. She was able to move the vehicle to another area that the police told her they would soon sweep too, so who knows if they have days or weeks of safety in their new location. These are YOUNG CHILDREN AND INFANTS. You are not offering them anything helpful and creating immeasurable trauma and harm. I genuinely do not understand how you all sleep at night knowing what you are putting these families through, for the crime of being poor.
If the city of Sacramento truly want to help the homeless, then they should turn their own 102 acres of land in South Sacramento into housing for the homeless. After I returned to Sacramento in early October, I read an article stating the city has 102 acres of land in South Sacramento since January 2022. Makes me think the city council is playing the board game "Life" and not living actual life. Safe parking for the homeless, which could provide 200 parking spaces on their land was denied.
When the land was bought for $12.3 million from the federal government, the idea for the land was going to be a homeless shelter and community resources.
The community of "Meadowview" voiced that they don’t want homeless people in their backyard, they want to build a youth sports complex. Meadowview is a part of Sacramento and should support what’s best for their city and their neighbors.
Mayor Steinberg and City Council I'm asking you please reconsider safe parking or open up a safe grounds site on your land before the winter comes. The time is now to make access roads and set up the property to better assist the homeless.
In addition if you want the sidewalks cleared of encampments, you can provide a safe place for them on your land. With the winter around the corner we should want to save as many homeless souls that we can, so please open your property up to those who truly need it. With my past experiences, being homeless is a challenge everyday, but you add bone chilling temperatures to that and survival is difficult at times. The property has already been sitting there for almost 2 years with nothing on the land yet. Let’s make a difference for the homeless here in Sacramento and make it a place for them to be safe at.
Thanks for your time

To the Mayor and City Council of Sacramento,
