Good afternoon members of the Personnel and Public Employees Committee, my name is Angela Maldonado and I am with the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California.we are a partner of the Sac Kids First Coalition.
I am calling in, regarding the timeline and implementation of the Sacramento Children's Fund Planning and Oversight Commission.
We sincerely appreciate the attentiveness with which the City Clerk and staff have begun this process. Additionally, our coalition would like to request that the following points be taken into consideration by this committee as this process continues:
1. that there be a clearly outlined process through which the Planning and Oversight Commission work collaboratively with the Sacramento Youth Commission as outlined in the charter of the measure
2. that this committee uplift the need for youth seats on the Planning and Oversight Commission, youth voice should be a part of every step of this process. Having youth members on the Planning and Oversight commission ensures this.
and 3. that this committee remembers that equity must be embedded in every part of the implementation process including the Planning and Oversight Commission. This means that folks with lived experience, folks who serve young people directly, and folks who have been directly impacted by poverty, violence, and trauma in this city, should be on this commission.
Let us not forget that The Sacramento Children's Fund lifted up specific priority areas including and not limited to preventing and reducing youth homelessness, youth substance abuse, and youth violence as well as supporting children 0-5.
Our coalition looks forward to meeting with Councilmembers to discuss the oversight commission and following this process. Thank you.
