I write in the support of the ongoing Al Fresco Dining Grant Program. The grant program is instrumental for the expansion of Al Fresco dining in the City of Sacramento. I would like to request that the City consider adding permanent full-street closures to the program to accompany patios in the public right-of-way and private property. Pedestrian only spaces such as R Street between 14th & 15th and 20th Street between K & J which were created during the pandemic should be made permanent with costs for such an action eligible for grants under the City's program. Pedestrian only spaces increase foot traffic to small businesses and reduce car related incidents in line with the City's Vision Zero program. Furthermore, the permanence of the spaces is of the utmost importance to allow for organic and dependable use by pedestrians and businesses rather than closure based on special events or permits. Thank you for your support of outdoor dining! Staff has done incredible work on this program.
