I live adjacent to the proposed East Boundary area and wholeheartedly support the proposed SPD. I encourage the city approve the measure for the SPD and to attract development that both (a) supports the surrounding neighborhoods with diverse retail, dining, and services, and also (b) brings some visual appeal to this stretch of Folsom.
The Sacramento Cannabis Industry objects to the proposed ordinance as presented and its characterization of licensed cannabis dispensaries as unlawful enterprise, being conflated with sketchy ‘somatic practitioners’ conducting ‘unlawful operations’, check cashing centers which exploit working people with predatory payday loans, and tobacco retailers which convey a highly addictive product proven to cause cancer and lung disease.
Security measures that licensed dispensaries are required to implement by law mean that criminal activity will decrease rather than increase in areas that welcome the entrance of cannabis dispensaries to the community. It is unfortunate that certain members of the City still see cannabis as a vice and drug rather than a medicinal herb with diverse value to the Sacramento community.
The lawful cannabis industry otherwise supports the goals and policy considerations presented in the proposed ordinance as presented by the Planning and Design Commission.
This is still a free country. The promise of this country is a equitable chance to make your way in life. This ordinance is nothing more than a way to keep minority owned businesses out of the area. The ordinance specifically attacks a black owned pot shop and an asian owned massage business. Saying that these two businesses are "low hanging fruit" is an insult to the men and women who work hard at their craft. It equates to saying because one protester turned into a looter we arrested them all them for looting. We have to approach each of these businesses individually. If they break the law, shut them down. But, it is not your job to gentrify the community at the behest of a few people who hate to see "those people" in their neighborhood. Councilman Guerra should be ashamed of himself for even bringing such a racist and anti-business ordinance. Did Mr. Guerra forget where he came from? This is a very slippery slope!

If neighborhoods want to limit adult businesses, they should be able to do so.
