The Sacramento Cannabis Industry objects to the proposed ordinance as presented and its characterization of licensed cannabis dispensaries as unlawful enterprise, being conflated with sketchy ‘somatic practitioners’ conducting ‘unlawful operations’, check cashing centers which exploit working people with predatory payday loans, and tobacco retailers which convey a highly addictive product proven to cause cancer and lung disease.
The lawful cannabis industry otherwise supports the goals and policy considerations presented in the proposed ordinance as presented by the Planning and Design Commission.
If the ordinance is to retain the provision prohibiting cannabis dispensaries (without evidence of negative impact) in its final version sent to council, CUP applications currently under review should be granted the same status and exception from the ordinance as nonconforming businesses currently in the proposed SPD areas, in the event that the ZA approves the project’s CUP.
