Yay! Thank You commissioners on your letter on Slow Streets to the City Council. While SABA is excited about this development as a result of the Mayors' Commission on Climate Change, we are also concerned that there is minimal to no funding attached to this. SABA will continue to advocate for this and will be reaching out to neighborhoods to help them understand the idea behind Slow Streets so that they can put forward some possible streets for implementation. Thank you for your continued support on this important initiative.
Commenting as Vice-Chair of the Midtown Neighborhood Association (MNA) Board, I comment in strong support of the calls to action requested in this letter--to urge City Council to fund a slow streets initiative. Hearing the Mayor mention he’d like to see the neighborhoods lead the charge on Slow Streets proposals, MNA is in the early stages of developing a serious proposal and is actively planning engagement with community orgs and residents on Slow Street alternatives to support and bring forth to the City for consideration to pilot. However, funding is necessary to make our Slow Street dream a reality. MNA is here and willing to put in the leg work to gain community support, but we need the City’s support for funding. Thank you to the Active Transportation Commission for supporting this action and for your continued support of the health and safety of the Midtown neighborhood.
