Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) supports the work of the ATC working to adopt an equity statement and lens from which to pursue active transportation projects in Sacramento. We further support the ATC and by extension the City's Transportation Department in adopting strategies that move towards deep and authentic engagement processes for communities, so that they feel a part of the decision-making process. SABA stands ready to support and help the City and ATC in these important activities.
The City of Sacramento should establish (an) equity framework(s) for all of its Commissions and Committees. The Mayors' Commission on Climate Change developed a set of equity recommendations for the City of Sacramento that should be reviewed as the City aligns itself on matters of equity. Equity in government demands transparent and accessible government processes.
I would.suggest that the working definition of "equity" should be the exact opposite of the Del Rio Trail project.
Here a handful of privileged class members in the South Land Park Neighborhood Association are forcing a plan to destroy a cherished cultural resource of the heritage railroad community in particular and the entire city in general.
The project is deliberately designed to inflict enough damage on the line so as to permanently foreclose on its future operations.
The plan is to rip up and destroy six currently paved over railroad crossings at grade with tracks underneath believed to be in pristine condition.
The plan will destroy the historic trestle across willow slough and pave over and burying almost two miles of track. It will bulldoze hundreds of feet of Historic levee in two different places.
This act of cultural genocide is all plotted by the politically well connected and privleged class in a deliberate attempt to destroy historic shared mobility resources.
