We already have a Rent Control Ballot Initiative that Qualified for the 2020 Election and we will NOT take anything less than Permanent Rent Control, Full Just Cause for Evictions Protections & a Democratic Elected Rent Board! This goes against the will of the thousands of constituents that signed the ballot initiative! We need Real Rent Control NOT this flawed deal with too many loopholes to actually keep the most vulnerable tenants in their homes.

The immediate effect of this "remedy" to high rents is that rents will go up and more people will be displaced. Crushing fees, "prevailing" wages and other mandatory requirements built in to development, except for developments deemed worthy by the Council, is one of the many reasons why affordable housing isn't being built in this city. This short sighted legislation, without any significant input from real stakeholders, will exacerbate the situation.
