We need rent control and just cause eviction, not more avenues to debate landlords who already hold more power. Most people do not have the time or resources for drawn-out mediation procedures. Let's tip the scales of power back towards renters. Rent control now!

While on the surface it may seem like this proposal will be good, it's flawed. While council members Jennings, Guerra and Hansen believe they have good intentions, the fact is that this proposal does not to do enough to ease the burden of renters in Sacramento. As everyone has noticed, prices have gone up and families are being kicked out of their communities that they've helped foster and create. Rent stabilization and just cause eviction will be more effective than a long drawn out mediation process. City council must absolutely consider those solutions instead of jumping to a very long mediation process that does not benefit tenants. Advocates for rent stabilization and just cause have reiterated their points many times about how much it would be of benefit to renters. It's time city council seriously considered bringing actual solutions to help the citizens of Sacramento instead of mediocre policies that do not serve the interests of tenants.
