5. Ordinance Amending Various Sections of Chapter 5.68 of the City Code Relating to Food Vending Vehicles (Passed for Publication 08/28/2018; Published 08/31/2018) File ID: 2018-01158
My fingers are crossed you will allow more food vehicle types to food vendors to do business in Sacramento.
My business idea I'm assembling, is to vend coffee and deserts with a small cart of trailer, instead of a food truck, which is more space and cost than is needed. Smaller vending vehicles also keep expenses, equipment, and overhead low, offering more profit, possibly.
And with more food vendors visible, more locals venturing outside would add to our growing community and culture; a great opportunity to get to know our neighbors!
Thank you all ahead of time for your consideration.
On behalf of the nonprofit Alchemist Community Development Corporation, we strongly encourage passage of the proposed Ordinance to allow food trailers and legalize greater street vending in Sacramento. Alchemist CDC is creating Alchemy Kitchen, a food business incubator which will help food entrepreneurs begin and develop food businesses. Consistent with our mission, Alchemy Kitchen will focus on serving under-resourced food entrepreneurs from historically disenfranchised populations. We believe expanded options for street vending should be allowed by the city as affordable options for under-resourced entrepreneurs to start a business. Street vending increases the vibrancy of our city and provides a means for people to generate assets and develop financial sustainability. Alchemy Kitchen will help food entrepreneurs navigate the system to establish lawful, permitted businesses and we encourage City Council to give them affordable, low-cost options such as food trailers and bicycles.

As a potential food bike operator, we are very supportive of this change. See the PDF attachment for further details and remarks.
