I support this motion and encourage the BAC to push the law even further toward common sense and freedom from cars. While some drivers see bicyclists as irritating eccentrics who detest cars and air-conditioning, I aspire toward a relationship by which there there's no such thing as a "non-cyclist": every citizen is either a biker or a potential-biker-who's-not-biking-at-this-particular-moment. This bloated unhealthy nation is long overdue for a cultural sea-change whereby biking, walking, and bussing are taken for granted as the default means of getting around; pedestrians no longer cower at the sight of a bike as though it's a tank moving down the road; and drivers are no longer jealous at cyclists' freedom from irrational traffic-controls. A conscientiously-operated bike is no more a danger or hindrance to cars and pedestrians than a pogo stick, and are therefore entitled to the same freedoms and nonchalant, indifferent regard by the rest of society.
