Bike parking is essential bike infrastructure and often determines whether or not someone will use a bike to travel to certain destinations. When people on bikes can’t conveniently and safely secure their bikes at a destination, they’re less likely to frequent that destination and in some cases, simply won’t use a bike when traveling there.
Despite having a strong bike parking ordinance based on national best practices, the City gives business and property owners no formal guidance on how to comply. Many business and property owners want to accommodate people on bikes, based on the number of them who routinely contact SABA for advice on bike racks and bike parking placement. The proposed guidelines will begin to provide them the guidance they seek.
