This is what our city needs. In the first 10 months of 2025, 134 people died in car crashes in Sacramento county alone. That's 134 lives gone forever because the streets aren't made for people. It's time to change that before more lives are lost.
My life was almost lost in a crash like this - a crash not an "accident". These crashes are preventable and it's time to prevent them.
I am located in District 7 and strongly support the adoption of the Streets for People plan.
I am very excited to see Sacramento make good on its potential to be a safe, healthy and vibrant city. I believe we can create an incredible community and culture through safe street development for pedestrians and cyclists alike. I believe this will bring in a lot of new residents, families and businesses that can be supported by this environment.
My name is Katie Webster and I live in District 4. I am very excited to see this plan come to fruition and make our streets safer. I strongly support this plan and encourage the city to adopt it.
I strongly support the Streets for People Active Transportation Plan. After my husband was killed due to a driver failing to abide by California traffic laws, I've learned firsthand that our streets must prioritize safety for everyone—pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers alike. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable road users who are often overlooked in transportation planning, yet they face disproportionate risks on our streets. I believe this plan represents our community's collective vision for safer, more accessible streets where no family has to endure the devastating loss mine has faced. Sacramento has the opportunity to lead with compassion and foresight by investing in infrastructure that protects our most vulnerable road users. I urge the Council to adopt this plan and take concrete action to prevent future deaths.
It is of the utmost importance that we make our streets safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities. Doing so improves life for everyone. We should be doing everything we can to ensure that every human who lives in or visits our city is able to do so safely. Our streets are far too big and dangerous. Speed limits are too high and visibility is too low. We need to shift our focus from outdated ways of thinking that prioritize cars, to ones that prioritize people and safety.
Please pass the Streets For People Plan. As a long term Oakland Park resident and bicycle rider, I am well aware the present risks for pedestrians and cyclists that exist. This plan will help reduce the risks and increase safety, which will further increase participation in walking and cycling in our communities.
I'm urging the City Council to adopt this plan so that Sacramento can become a better place to cycle, walk, and navigate for people with disabilities, especially in lower income neighborhoods.
As a Midtown resident I have benefited from the City improvements to make Midtown and Downtown grids more safe for people. I support seeing this more rapidly implemented city wide, especially in areas where collisions have occurred or where there has been less investment in transportation safety.
Great progress! The next step is to support and implement all policy recommendations from Slow Down Sacramento so that our great city is the most livable, vibrant, and safe in the state:
1. Quick Build across the high injury network
2. Reduce prima facie speeds to 20 mph
3. Crash response team deployed at any death or serious injury
4. Daylight now and protect the zone
5. No turn on red in the Sacramento "Toast"
6. Paint all crossings
7. Active streets, walking malls, and outdoor dining
8. ART! Everywhere in the public right of way
9. End dangerous design like slip lanes
10. Automated enforcement for unsafe driver behaviors
11. Democratize our roadways through allowing community groups to paint and engage in non-moving enforcement
I am a resident of District 2 and I strongly support the adoption of the Streets for the People plan.
Sacramento has the potential to become a great city to walk or bike in. I bike to work daily (Campus Commons and East Sacramento) and appreciate any and all advances in safety measures for cyclists. If we build great active transport infrastructure, people of all abilities and experience levels will feel safe and confident moving around our city. Less reliance on cars is also great for our local air quality and reducing noise pollution.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
